En 2009, elle incarne Sandy, mère célibataire dans la comédie romantique Mon babysitter de Bart Freundlich et en 2010 elle remporte le Tony Award de la meilleure actrice dans une comédie musicale pour son interprétation de Desiree Armfeldt dans A Little Night Music aux côtés d'Angela Lansbury.
